Chandler's Father's Day weekend centers on the historic downtown, where several venues have scheduled Sunday events within a few blocks of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. Four of them sit around San Marcos Plaza, making it easy to walk from one to the next.
SanTan Brewing & Distilling is hosting A Hoppy Father's Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Murphy's Law Irish Pub has a Father's Day special from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Rebel & Rogue is running its own from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. BlackSheep Wine Bar offers a Paint and Pour session from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
On Saturday, residents can choose between two farmers markets. The Downtown Chandler Farmers Market at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park sells fresh produce and artisan goods. A second market operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Merchant Square Antiques. Also on Saturday, Firebird Motorsports Park is holding Midnight Madness, with run-what-ya-brung drag racing, a truck show and vendors.
Other Saturday activities include an open house at The Ritual Room and a city water-conservation pop-up called Water You Doing, set for noon at 250 S. Kyrene Road.
Looking ahead, the Chandler Center for the Arts is preparing for its production of Fiddler on the Roof. A pre-audition workshop is planned for July 27, with audition calls on Aug. 2. Tickets for the Shanghai Ballet are also now on sale at the Center.
Shoppers will find something new at Chandler Fashion Center, the mall at Chandler Boulevard and Loop 101, where several new stores have recently held grand openings. Separately, Chandler's typical home value is about $524,000, a decline of roughly 2% over the past year.
In local schools, Chandler Unified School District received six A+ Schools of Excellence awards, a district record. Perry High School will hold a special ceremony to retire the jersey of Jalen Williams, an NBA guard and Perry alum. The district has also published a look at how the Casteel girls soccer program climbed the ranks.
Beyond Chandler, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Minnesota Twins on Friday at 6:40 p.m. at Chase Field, the only time the Twins visit Phoenix this year. Shrek is coming to the Herberger Theater, and The Moth storytelling series is headed to Crescent Ballroom.
